ICS2 – What It Is and What It Means for Your Shipments
What is ICS2?
The Import Control System 2 (ICS2) is a European Union regulation designed to improve the security and efficiency of goods entering the EU. ICS2 was officially implemented on March 1, 2021, in phases, with full implementation gradually coming into effect over the past few years. Starting December 2024, maritime carriers have begun requesting additional information to ensure full compliance with ICS2 regulations.
What’s New?
While ICS2 has been in effect for a few years, this month marks the start of a new phase where maritime carriers now require detailed information for shipments heading to the EU. This was not previously requested consistently. To comply with ICS2, you will now need to provide more comprehensive cargo information in advance of departure.
Required Information for ICS2:
The following details must now be provided for every shipment to the EU:
- Consignee Information: Full name, address, and contact details of the consignee (receiver of the goods) together with EORI number.
- Sender Details: Name and address of the sender.
- Cargo Description: A detailed description of the goods being shipped, including Harmonized System (HS) codes, weight, volume, and packaging information.
- Transport Information: Mode of transport (vessel, flight, etc.), container numbers, and estimated arrival times.
- Invoice and Purchase Order Numbers: Relevant invoice and order numbers for the goods.
How It Affects You:
With the full enforcement of ICS2, maritime carriers are now enforcing these documentation requirements. To avoid any delays or issues with customs clearance, we strongly recommend that you ensure this information is provided in advance for all shipments to the EU. We are here to assist you with the collection and submission of these details to make the process as smooth as possible.
